Overview

Morocco has its own deep perfume tradition, built on ingredients the country grows or trades in — Kelaat M'Gouna's damask roses, orange blossom (neroli) from Fes and the south, amber, musk and oud from the historic spice-and-scent trade, and orange-flower and rose waters distilled for centuries. This workshop puts you at the blending bench with a trained nose, walking through the raw materials before you build and bottle a fragrance that is genuinely your own.

Long before Marrakech's souks were selling to tourists, they were trading posts on routes that carried resins, spices and aromatics across the Sahara and out to the Mediterranean — amber, musk, frankincense and oud moving alongside the rose and orange-blossom waters distilled locally in the Atlas foothills and further south. That layered history is the backbone of this workshop: before you blend anything, you smell and learn the raw materials one by one, guided by someone trained to read a scent's structure rather than just its label.

The bench work starts with the classic perfumer's structure — top notes that hit first and fade fastest, often citrus or light florals; heart notes that form the character of the scent, frequently rose, orange blossom or jasmine here; and base notes that anchor and last longest, typically amber, musk, sandalwood or oud. You test combinations by smell rather than formula, guided toward balance rather than left to guess, and adjust the blend until it reads as something you would actually want to wear rather than a science experiment.

Because the ingredients are genuinely Moroccan — Kelaat M'Gouna is one of the world's great rose-growing valleys, and the country's orange-blossom and amber traditions run deep — the resulting fragrance carries a real sense of place rather than a generic gift-shop scent. Your final blend is measured, mixed and bottled in a small vial or bottle to take home, labelled with your own formula so you (or the atelier) can recreate it later.

It suits anyone curious about scent, a nice pairing with a spice-souk visit, and a genuinely personal souvenir — unlike almost anything else you can buy in the Medina, no one else will have exactly your blend. It works well solo, as a couple's activity, or as a slightly different creative session for a small group.
