Marrakech has a hot semi-arid climate: reliably sunny, dry for most of the year, and swinging from cool winter nights to fierce summer highs. Knowing how each month feels helps you match your trip to your tolerance for heat, crowds and cost. Here's the year at a glance, month by month.

Spring and autumn: the best window
March through May and September through November are when Marrakech is at its most pleasant. Days are warm (low-to-high 20s, rising towards 30°C by late spring and early autumn), nights are mild, the countryside is green in spring, and you can sightsee all day without wilting. These are also the busiest and priciest months for exactly that reason, so book accommodation ahead. April, May and October are the pick of the bunch.
- March: warm days (~20–23°C), cool nights, green landscapes, some rain.
- April–May: warm to hot (~25–30°C), dry, ideal — and popular.
- September: hot easing to warm as the month goes on.
- October–November: warm days, cooler nights, excellent for touring.
Summer: hot and quieter
June to August is peak heat. July and August routinely hit 38–42°C and can spike above 45°C in a chergui desert wind, making midday sightseeing tough. But it's a dry heat, nights cool into the mid-20s, and prices and crowds ease, so a summer trip can be great value if you front-load sightseeing to the morning, rest at midday by a pool, and head out again in the evening. Escaping to the cooler Atlas or coastal Essaouira is a popular summer move.
Winter: mild days, cold nights
December to February brings the biggest surprise for first-timers: warm, sunny afternoons (often 18–20°C) but cold nights that can drop to 5°C or lower, with the High Atlas snow-capped behind the city. Pack real layers — a warm jacket for evenings — and check your riad has heating. Rain is most likely now but still infrequent. Winter is quieter and cheaper, atmospheric, and fine for sightseeing by day; just don't expect balmy evenings. It's also prime time to see snow in the mountains on a day trip.
