The Sahara is the reason many people visit Morocco. The question is not whether to go — it is which desert, how many days, and what style of camp.

We offer three desert options from Marrakech: Zagora (2 days — closest, smaller dunes), Merzouga (3 days — the classic Erg Chebbi big dunes), and Erg Chigaga (3-4 days — the most remote and spectacular). All include camel trekking, a desert camp and stargazing.

What's included

2-day Zagora

The quickest desert taste. Drive through the Draa Valley oasis, ride camels to a small camp, spend the night and return the next day.

3-day Merzouga

The classic route via Ait Benhaddou and Dades Gorge. Camp on the towering Erg Chebbi dunes — the most photographed dunes in Morocco.

4-day Erg Chigaga

The most remote dunes in Morocco. Fewer tourists, bigger skies, and a true sense of isolation.

Common questions

Which desert is better — Zagora or Merzouga?

Merzouga has the bigger, more dramatic dunes (Erg Chebbi) and is the classic Sahara experience. Zagora is closer and quicker but has smaller, flatter dunes. If you have three days, choose Merzouga. If you only have two, Zagora is still worth it.

What is the best time to visit the Sahara?

October to April. Summer is extremely hot (45°C+). The most popular months are October-November and March-April when temperatures are comfortable (25-30°C during the day).

Is the camel trek difficult?

No. It is a gentle ride of 45-90 minutes on flat terrain. Camels walk slowly and a handler leads each one. Children from about age 5 can ride with a parent.

What do desert camps look like?

Standard camps have shared Berber-style tents with mattresses and blankets, communal bathrooms with cold showers, and a dining tent. Luxury camps have private canvas suites with real beds, en-suite hot showers and gourmet dining.
