Overview
Flights launch at first light because that is when the air is coolest and calmest — you will be collected from your riad or hotel in the dark, usually between 5 and 6am depending on the season, and driven 30–45 minutes out to the launch field north of the city.
After a hot drink you watch the crew lay out and inflate the balloon, then climb into the basket for a 45-to-60-minute flight. You drift wherever the wind takes you, typically over palm groves, olive orchards and small Berber hamlets, with the Atlas range filling the skyline. It is smooth and unhurried — a balloon moves with the air, so there is no wind in your face and no sway.
Back on the ground the crew packs up while you are treated to the traditional post-flight celebration: a sparkling toast and a Berber breakfast, often in a nomad-style tent. Most operators hand out a flight certificate. You are usually back at your hotel by mid-morning with the whole day still ahead of you.
