Behind its red walls Marrakech is a city of gardens, a centuries-old tradition of cool, water-fed retreats that runs from medieval royal orchards to the artists' paradise of the twentieth century. This half-day joins the three most rewarding — the cobalt-blue Jardin Majorelle, the restored Jardin Secret hidden in the medina, and the vast Menara olive basin — with a guide and a car to handle the distances between them.
The tour usually opens at the Jardin Majorelle, the 1920s garden painter Jacques Majorelle painted in his trademarked electric blue and later saved by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, who made it their Marrakech home. Cacti, bamboo, lily ponds and the memorial to YSL sit within a small, intense space that gets busy fast, so an early start matters. Your guide unpicks the double story of the painter and the couturier that the garden itself only hints at.
From there you drop into the medina for Le Jardin Secret on Rue Mouassine — a grand riad's twin gardens restored a decade ago, one a formal Islamic char-bagh fed by the old khettara water system, the other an exotic garden, with a tower to climb for rooftop views. The tour closes at the Menara, the serene olive grove around a huge stone irrigation basin, its pavilion framed against the snow-capped Atlas on a clear day — Marrakech's classic postcard, and free to enter.
It is a gentler, more contemplative outing than the souks, and a lovely counterpoint to the intensity of the old city. Because the gardens are spread across town, the included transport keeps it comfortable, and going private lets you swap in the Agdal royal gardens (open certain days) or a garden café for mint tea. Which three gardens does the tour cover?

Do I need to book Majorelle tickets in advance?
In high season it's strongly recommended — the garden caps numbers and the queue can be long by mid-morning. A timed online ticket, or having your guide arrange one, saves a lot of standing in line. The Menara needs no ticket to enter, and Le Jardin Secret you can usually buy on arrival.
Is there much walking on the gardens tour?
Not a great deal — each garden is a gentle stroll on mostly flat paths, and the car covers the distances between them, so it's one of the easier tours on your feet. The Jardin Secret tower is an optional climb of a few flights for the view.
Can the Menara be swapped for another garden?
