The weather reality
From December to February, expect warm afternoons that invite T-shirt sightseeing, then a sharp drop after sunset to single digits — 5°C, sometimes lower, is normal at night. This surprises many first-timers who picture Morocco as uniformly hot. Rain is more likely than in summer but still occasional and usually short. The upside of winter's clear, cool air is the view: the snow-capped Atlas looms crisp and close behind the city, at its most photogenic.
What to pack and how to stay warm
Layering is essential: light clothes for the warm middle of the day, plus a proper warm jacket, jumper and scarf for the cold evenings. Riads, built around open courtyards to stay cool in summer, can feel chilly in winter, so confirm yours has heating (many provide portable heaters and extra blankets) before you book. A rooftop dinner is lovely by day but bring a coat after dark. Good news for sightseeing: the daytime cool makes long walks around the souks and monuments a pleasure, with none of the summer wilt.
